[hbsmrusers] Opinions sought (swiftly) on HBSMR filtering

Hi folks
Ditto, I rarely manage to compact, and have no problems with filtering being particularly slow. A couple of our installations are split between local and networked installs so the proposed method would need more regular maintenance by individuals as well, so happy to keep temporary tables as is.

Sarah

I agree with Helen

I can only really compact when I am first in (or last out) so once a week is a good week. Filtering isn't annoyingly slow nor noticebly better after compacting at the moment, so I would suggest against the change

best wishes

Hello,

I never manage to do a repair and compact every day, I do it when I'm
the first one in (which happens fairly often but not every day...).

	Hi Crispin,
Here in Essex we would certainly be able to cope with compacting
everyday and would find the increased speed useful.

filtering
	Importance: High

	Hi All
I'm just finishing an urgent patch release, that fixes a few
bugs (esp the thing for people on Access 2003 without service packs).

I have a decision about how the index form filtering works...

I can make filtering much faster, but the downside will be that
the HBSMR cpplication (HBSMR.MDB) will need to be compacted more
regularly, as the speed gain is accrued by storing temporary tables
internally, rather than in external temporary MDBs.
Under heavy use, it would probably benefit from compacting once
a day.

So does anyone have any feelings on the relative benefits of
having faster filtering against more maintenance? The speed improvement
will be perhaps 50-100%, and probably more noticable for SQL Server
users.

	thanks
	Crispin

PS I'll be having to finalise this decision by about 11am today.
