[hbsmrusers] PAS importer

Hi folks
Just to clarify and expand on what has already been said...

The matching with existing FINDS is only on the PAS identifier, and NOT on the HER identifier. So you will only get a match if a) the find has been imported before, or b) you have manually entered a PAS ID against an existing Find record.

The matching with existing MONUMENTS is on PAS "SMRReference" against Mon.MonUID and Mon.PrefRef as Keith explains. It must be an exact match, though we do try stripping spaces from the PrefRef match if there is not an initial direct match (because variable numbers of spaces is a common variant in old numbering systems).

cheers
Crispin

Hi Helen
My understanding is... Unless the finds have been recorded by the PAS with the (correctly formatted) HER number, the importer would create new find and new monument records (if so desired) and you would have to merge the new PAS monument record(s) with the original monument (which would keep its original number).

	Hello,

Sorry, have been thinking about this following yesterday's meeting and I do have a question!

If I had a known Roman site, and PAS turned up loads more coins and brooches in the same place, I'd want to merge those with the original record. Would the importer know to merge them with the original? Or would I have to do it manually? I wouldn't really want to give the 'original' site a different Monument number.

	Hope that makes sense,
